Report Details

We have a roped Snowy Plover nest just 20 feet south of the South Jetty access point.  The beach was very crowded on a cold, breezy morning, most of whom accessed at the S. Jetty.  I counted 55 cars parked by the jetty, and more were coming in as I left.

Temperature: 49 F. Cloud Cover: Cloudy. Wind Velocity: Moderate. Wind Direction: SW. Tide Level: -0.8 feet.

Human Activities

Number of people: 85. Walking or running: 60. Sitting: 8. Surfing: 20. Fishing: 5. I've never seen so many people on South Beach, esp. on a cold, overcast day! We have a roped off snowy plover nest just south of the South Jetty Access. The surfers use a route right next to the nest.

Vehicles

Cars/trucks parking: 55.

Notable Wildlife

SNOWY PLOVER NEST, only saw male on the nest.

Driftline Content

Small rocks, Seaweeds and seagrass, Shells, Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt), Wood pieces, Marine debris (plastic, styrofoam, etc. washing in from the sea).
