Report Details

First day of King Tide made for limited beach walking, so only two people and three dogs.  The Snowy Plover were feeding and sitting in footprints.  They scattered when the dogs came near.  Two large flocks of Sanderling feeding and being chased by the incoming tide.

Temperature: 43 F. Cloud Cover: Cloudy. Tide Level: 9.8 feet.

Number of people: 2. Number of dogs: 3. Walking or running: 3. Other Activities: Dogs running far ahead of owners. the two people were walking too close to high tide!

Disturbances: Shorebirds moving in response to humans/dogs

Notable Wildlife

I counted 16 of the 26 Snowy Plover that seem to be wintering over on South Beach. Dogs scattered the birds, so count was difficult. Two large groups of Sanderling in tide.

Driftline Content

Small rocks, Seaweeds and seagrass, Shells, Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt), Wood pieces, Marine debris (plastic, styrofoam, etc. washing in from the sea). Tide line was pretty clean of human debris, small bits of plastic, but mostly natural debris. Lots of large kelp piles
