Mile 212 - Holiday Beach north, Moore Creek, Grant Creek - April 21, 2021

Report Details

A few new drainage pipes and a new cement walkway onto the beach at the south end of the Surfland development. A 1.4 acre ocean-front parcel was recently sold along the northern section of the Pacific Shores development.

Conditions

Temperature: 52 F. Cloud Cover: Cloudy. Wind Velocity: Moderate. Wind Direction: N. Tide Level: 6.0 feet.

Human Activities

Number of people: 2. Walking or running: 2.

Notable Wildlife

Lots of bird life. Several batches of both large and small shore birds, several crows, two eagles, a pair of ducks and about 10-12 Turkey vultures feeding off a sea lion carcass that that has been on the beach for several weeks.

Driftline Content

Small rocks, Shells, Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt), Wood pieces, Marine debris (plastic, styrofoam, etc. washing in from the sea). several plastic bottles and a broken bucket.

New Development

Steps down bluff, Drainage pipes.

Man-made Modifications

New riprap or shoreline protection structures. Not new riprap but some riprap maintenance was performed earlier in the week along the north end of the Pacific Shores development.

Natural Changes

Landslides/major boulder falls. One major slump has continued to move.

A new house is being built just south of Grant Creek near an unstable portion of the bluff (picture attached). A new railing installed along a section of riprap (picture attached). A large rock field is exposed along this section (picture attached). Several small slide/slough areas apparent associated with the rains earlier in the month.
