Report Details

Although a lovely day, it was a Thursday so there were not a lot of people on the beach. A few gulls, a flock of sanderlings, some crows, and a few birds in the surf added life to a wet beach that seemed to have had its surface wiped clean by the rainstorms and the tide.

Conditions

Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Tide Level: 3.5 feet.

Human Activities

Number of people: 13. Number of dogs: 2. Walking or running: 11. Playing in sand: 2. The recent storm had eroded the ground under the bluff fence at the Lost Creek Park picnic area. Two older children had climbed under the fence and out onto the bluff.

Concerns

Climbing bluffs/seastacks

Vehicles

Cars/trucks parking: 3.

Notable Wildlife

a flock of sanderlings (Calidris alba); also about 20 crows at Lost Creek State Park picnic area

Driftline Content

Actions & Comments

There are normally some steady slow seeps from the bluffs, but due to heavy rains almost the whole beach was wet from seepage and strong stream flow. In some areas where there are usually seeps, waterfalls took their place.

We have noticed that during the winter storms the sand on the beach moves (presumably offshore) and then is redeposited during spring.
