Report Details

It was a quiet Monday afternoon with only two beach visitors and one dog (3+2 including myself and Westly). Two differences from my last report in January were noted, evidently resulting from winter storms. The wrack line was completely cleared of all human debris and contained only sand (half) dollars and crab shells. On the southern portion of the mile, many small rounded boulders were washed up in piles along the base of the cliffs. The largest are about a foot in diameter. At first I suspected homeowners adding riprap, but the layer of stones extends for at least 1/4 mile and as much as 30 feet from the cliff. Is it possible that the rocks were always there, but tons of sand over them have been removed? In any case, this seems like a vivid reminder of the power of winter waves and a warning to beach walkers. Two photos are attached.

Walking north oh Wayside Lodge I saw 15 or so dead Black Turnstone. That was the only species of bird that was dead. Lots of plastic bottles that I picked up.

I was just curious if a person who is knowledgeable about geology could explain what I'm seeing in the cliff here?
