Report Details

My first time walking my mile. Very little beach to walk on but wonderful walk way which gives access to the rocky beaches and coves. Pelicans in flight traveling south. Cape Cove jam-packed with large driftwood.

Conditions

Temperature: 48 F. Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light.

Human Activities

Number of people: 4. 2 couples walking along the paved walkway, I presume they parked at the Cape Perpetua Visitor Center because there were no cars parked in either of the pulloffs on Hwy 101

Concerns

Litter

Apparent violations: small amount of litter on Cape Cove's beach.

Driftline Content

Wood pieces. Cape Cove was full of large logs at the mouth of the creek

New Development

Drainage pipes.

Man-made Modifications

New riprap or shoreline protection structures. Since this is my first walk I am not sure but a fabric has been added to the walls along the walk way where the new drainage pipe is

I normally don't report on Mile 190 but since I've been a volunteer naturalist/interpretive ranger at Cape Perpetua since 2008, I can report on those things that have been changing over the years.

The rock walls appear to have been scoured of small blue mussels and the only sea star noted was in a depression at the top of a rock at the western edge of the beach, which also appeared to be part of a healthy community with anemone.
