Mile 182 Report
Roosevelt Beach, Ponsler SW, China Creek, Big Creek
December 8, 2012
We entered the beach at two locations again this month, due to high water in China Creek.
Report Details
We entered the beach at two locations again this month, due to high water in China Creek. There were more people than I anticipated for such a cool, occasionally rainy day; 9 people, three dogs.We tagged a lovely Northern Fulmar for COASST. Didn't observe any other wildlife There were a lot of pine needles that must have come down the rain swollen nearby creeks then been washed upon the shore to create part of the wrack. As usual, this beach is relatively free of ocean debris compared to others I visit regularly. There were more plastic drink bottle than usual, and not too old. Perhaps they were washed down the creeks as well, from campgrounds upstream.
Conditions
Temperature: 49 F. Cloud Cover: Cloudy. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Wind Direction: N. Tide Level: 3.0 feet.
Human Activities
Number of people: 9. Number of dogs: 3. Walking or running: 6. cool, cloudy day, occasional light rain. I was surprised to see so many people on the beach. It is possible the media coverage of impending Tsunami debris, and the fact that we had just experienced a large storm may have contributed to the traffic.
