Fewer people using the beach generally over the summer and shorter visit times is helping to keep mile 181 wild and clean. The high sand keeps most of the beach above the tide. It protects the path people take from erosion as people walk down to the sand from the parking lot. Steam was coming off the sand in places, a reminder about cold air coming off the water. The beach seemed nearly empty and 1/4 mile wide.

Beach access is now open for limited stays. The day use is back open for 4 hour parking. Campground is closed due to concerns over Covid 19 spread.

During a minus tide I noticed the sand was soaked with puddles and with wet logs scattered everywhere. There were places where hundreds of Velella jellyfish were observed on the sand.
