The Hatfield Marine Science Center’s annual Markham Symposium, which celebrates student scholarship winners, features a talk on ocean acidification by Elizabeth Perotti.  The event, free and open to all, takes place at the Gladys Valley Marine Studies Building at the Hatfield Marine Science Center (2030 S.E. Marine Science Dr., in the South Beach area of Newport) on Thursday, June 16, from 2-5 p.m.

Dr. Elizabeth Perotti is the Education and Outreach Coordinator with the Ocean Acidification Program of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.  Ocean acidification and hypoxia are growing threats to marine life and ocean ecosystems due to climate change.

The student awards being honored by this event, made possible by donor contributions, directly support students and recognize their research efforts. In addition to the lecture, the event features poster sessions and student presentations.  It takes place in the Gladys Valley MSB atrium and auditorium.

The talk and student presentations can also be viewed online, https://oregonstate.zoom.us/j/96716173843pwd=VGVTemNQdmR3TWluM3VoRnZObGlKdz09, Password 086075.
