Straws Film Screening
The Portland Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation is hosting a free screening of STRAWS at Spirit of 77 Bar (500 NE Martin Luthur King Blvd., Portland) on Tuesday Jan. 15 from 7 p.m.-9 p.m.
STRAWS is a powerful documentary about plastic straws and other forms of plastic pollution that inundate our waterways and oceans. The film illustrates how individuals, groups, and businesses around the globe are reducing plastic straw use through education, collaboration, policy development and utilization of non-plastic alternatives. With colorful opening animation narrated by Oscar winner Tim Robbins, STRAWS is entertaining as well as educational.
The screening will be followed by a conversation on single-use plastics. This discussion will include advocacy, policy and what you can do to make an impact.
Attending this event also supports, Spirit of 77, who is one of the growing list of Portland's bars and restaurants who have agreed to ditch the plastic straw and start an upon request policy for a paper straw alternative. They were also one of the first of Surfrider's Ocean Friendly Restaurants in Portland.
