After a two-year hiatus for the usual reason, NAME (the Northwest Aquatic and Marine Educators) is holdings its 46th annual conference, Aug. 6-10 in Netarts.  The theme, appropriate as members and other conference-goers are connecting for the first time since the start of the pandemic, is “Coastal Reconnections.”  Members of the public are welcome to attend.

The event takes place at The Terimore (5505 Crab Ave. W in Netarts).  Those attending the entire conference can lodge there at conference rates.  Those attending only a portion of the conference will need to find other lodging options.  Basic conference fee for non-members is $330 through July 6, $365 thereafter (student rate $265).  One-day rates at $180/$205. There are other rates for family members.  Fees include events and most meals.  Arrange for lodging at The Terimore on a first-come, first-served basis through NAME.

Programs include learning about the geologic and indigenous history of the area, and exploring tidepools, dunes, the bay and the coastal forest. Field experiences each day offer opportunities for kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, crabbing, clamming, hiking, and exploring in the dunes. Evening activities include beach bonfires, outdoor games and music, and a gala on the outdoor deck at the Schooner in Netarts

Registration beings at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6, followed by a reception.  Conference activities continue the Wednesday morning, Aug. 7.  Details on presentations are not available as yet.  We do know that CoastWatch Volunteer Coordinator Jesse Jones will be making presentations to the group.
