Lecture on Plate Tectonics
Geologist Bob Lillie will discuss “Beauty from the Beast: Plate Tectonics and the Landscape of the Pacific Northwest” at the Yachats Common (441 Highway 101 N.) on Sunday, Jan. 21, at 2 p.m. The public event (free, but a $5 donations is suggested) is sponsored by the Yachats Academy of Arts and Sciences
Dr. Lillie, a retired Oregon State University professor of geosciences, is an expert on the Cascadian Subduction Zone and its effects on Oregon’s coastal terrain, notably the occasional massive earthquakes it triggers. Lillie specializes in public interpretation of geology, particularly in terms of the landscape of parks and what it can tell visitors.
