Oregon Shores is joining with the Surfrider Foundation, Audubon Society of Portland-Ten Mile Creek Sanctuary, and Green Fire Productions to sponsor a special showing of “Ocean Frontiers III:  Leaders in Ocean Stewardship and the New Blue Economy.”  The film shows at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17, in the Yachats Commons (441 Hwy 101).  A reception begins at 5 p.m.

The film will be followed at 7 p.m. by a panel discussion and Q-and-A session with Charlie Plybon, Oregon Policy Manager with Surfrider, and Karen Meyer, Executive Director of Green Fire Productions, concerning the state of West Coast ocean planning.

Admission is free, but RSVP to save a seat:  Refreshments will be served.

During the decade leading up to the creation of Oregon’s marine reserves, the first two “Ocean Frontiers” films from Green Fire Productions helped to inform the public about marine reserves and how they work, and start conversations about the ways in which citizens, often far from the ocean, can help to protect ocean resources.

This latest film chronicles efforts to plan for a healthy, safe, and sustainable future ocean.  The film explores the intersection of national security, maritime commerce, fishing, and recreation, plus expanding industries such as offshore wind energy and aquaculture, coupled with scientific discovery. The film tells the story of how ocean planning seeks to manage and balance all the uses of our ocean to keep it thriving for generations to come.
