The South Coast Striders hiking group invites the public along on what they describe as one of their favorite hikes, on the Eel Lake Trail.  Meet at 10 a.m. at the Tugman State Park Day Use Area.  The park (address 72549 Hwy 101 in Lakeside) is 18 miles north of Coos Bay on the inland side of the highway.

There will be four-mile hike out and back along the trail, which is fairly level and runs around the south edge of the lake.  Those seeking more exercise will walk at a brisker pace to the end of the trail and back, a total of six miles.  The hike traverses a forest of spruce, cedar, fir, and alder, and winds around the lakes’ inlets.  The group will lunch at the park’s picnic area after the hike.

Paddlers might consider coming out earlier to paddle the lake in advance of the hike.
