COASST (Coastal Observation and Seabird Survey Team) conducts a marine debris project that differs from the one organized by CoastWatch. They are offering a  training in their method which will take place in Astoria on Sunday, Nov. 18, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Clatsop Community College's Towler Hall (1651 Lexington Ave.).

COASST Marine Debris participants survey local beaches and collect data on the characteristics and location of debris—data that will ultimately be used to map the source and transport pathways of debris, as well as the potential harm to people, wildlife, and local coastal ecosystems.
