This year’s annual survey for Black Oystercatchers will focus just on identifying and monitoring nest sites—the abundance survey will not be done this year.  If you would be interested in learning more about Black Oystercatchers and this citizen science project, and would like to consider becoming a volunteer, you can explore the topic at a training session on Saturday, May 9, 10 a.m. in the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s meeting room and the agency’s Newport office (2127 S.E. Marine Science Dr.).  The event, organized by Portland Audubon together with the Forest Service and other agencies and conservation groups, is free and open to all.
