A birding expedition to the beautiful, remote Arizona Beach area is on offer from the Kalmiopsis Audubon Society.  The “Let’s Go Birding” field trip, free and open to all, begins at 8:15 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7, at the Arizona Beach.  The trip leader is Gary Maschmeyer.

Participants will look for songbirds in surrounding forests, Virginia Rail and Black Phoebes in the ponds, and for cormorants, grebes and possibly other seabirds from the beach.

Those coming from the north will meet Gary and the rest of the group at the Arizona Beach parking lot, east of Hwy 101 just north of Prehistoric Gardens, about midway between Port Orford and Gold Beach.  Those coming from the south and seeking to carpool can meet at the Gold Beach Visitor’s Center (94080 Shirley Ln.) at 7:45 a.m., or at Azalea Middle School parking lot (505 Pacific Ave.) in Brookings at 7 a.m.
