Blacklock Point and Cape Blanco Site Management Plan Workshop
About the event
<nbsp;>
The Oregon Coastal Management Program (OCMP) is hosting a workshop to develop site management plans for the rocky habitat protected areas near Port Orford designated last year: Blacklock Point Marine Conservation Area and Cape Blanco Marine Research Area.
<nbsp;>
OCMP is a federally recognized program housed within the Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development (DLCD). We work in partnership with tribal governments, coastal jurisdictions, state and federal agencies, and other partners to ensure that Oregon’s coastal and ocean resources are managed, conserved, and developed consistent with statewide planning goals.

Following the 2023 Amendments to the Territorial Sea Plan Part III: The Rocky Habitat Management Strategy, the OCMP is engaging communities in the development of management strategies for the eight rocky habitat protected areas designated last year. Two of these protected areas are near Port Orford: Blacklock Point Marine Conservation Area and Cape Blanco Marine Research Area. We would like to invite you to participate in this discussion and planning process.

The first workshop is intended for professionals and volunteers with interest or experience in rocky habitats, local jurisdictions, coastal tribal staff, state and federal agency staff, and other interested parties. As a group, we will brainstorm a vision for Blacklock Point MCA and Cape Blanco MRA and discuss how each entities’ work might intersect with this vision. We will discuss how the site designation can contribute to a meaningful experience for visitors and protect the marine resources.
