Surveyed some foreign debris on the South jetty (parking lot C) at Fort Stevens State Park. Found a brown bottle with the name Paolyta Co. The article (link below) mentions, "Four people in Taichung City were poisoned yesterday after consuming energy drinks from Paolyta that are suspected to be contaminated with cyanide." The bottle was empty. http://www.chinapost.com.tw/taiwan/2005/05/19/62605/Energy-drinks.htm Also found a interesting item with a lot of Asian writing and numbers. Lettering said "Wash-Pong." There are several websites and images. Might have to do with "Beer Pong wash cups" for ping-pong balls.

Nothing unusual except for the eagle. (Note from CoastWatch volunteer - Before Ed walked his CW Mile, Myself and another CoastWatch volunteer joined him for the NOAA marine debris survey on the north end of CoastWatch Mile 338. We found a handful of items in the 100 meters we surveyed. According to Ed it's notable that on this Mile, 339, there is always more trash accumulated than on Mile 338. Also of note, the bluffs at the end of the trail from Parking Lot B were much more difficult to ascend than the last time I was at this location.)

This was actually taken up the Columbia at the Julia Butler Hansen NWR but I thought it would be of interest to folks here. There were hundreds of sea lions in the river. I believe they were following the smelt run: http://www.columbian.com/news/2015/feb/28/outdoors-survey-marine-mammals.... But the coolest thing was a group of about 40 sea lions swimming upriver as a group. They would all splash and jump out of the water for a couple of minutes, then disappear underwater for 3-4 minutes, then appear on the surface upstream, jumping and splashing again. They did not appear to be catching fish, this is just how they were traveling.I took videos of this. Go to https://www.facebook.com/RefugeStewards/videos and watch the videos in order (1, 2, 3) to watch them swim up the river.

There's a tree stump that is gradually being progressively exposed (see photo).  I marked this with red paint.  This should be an excellent opportunity to measure the rate of dune retreat.  Wish I had thought about this a year or so ago when I first saw it.  I've been monitoring it for the last months and have taking photos.

Also, somthing else I will start doing and should've started years ago, that is, measuring dune profiles using an Abney level.  I'll begin this next month.  This is valuable data, easily acquired, and something we could ask CW'ers to do.
