COMMENTSLitter noted was light and in the form of small plastic bottles, some styrofoam, old rope, and cardboard. Compared to visit in February, 2006, there was definitely less human debris. I wonder whether Tillamook County has plans for the Spit. There are a couple of campsites, but the outhouse at the north end on the Bay side, near the camping area, has holes in the roof and appears to be abandoned. There is also a small amount of garbage near the firepits in the campsites, but no garbage cans nearby. Rock fill on the county road is sometimes made up of large rocks that make bicycle riding impossible. It appears the county does not have a plan.
SUMMARYThis visit was made just after a significant low tide and the beach generally looked very clean with no change from the previous visit in February. I walked to the north end of the Bayocean Spit and around to Tillamook Bay. The Bay side also appeared to be clean and without evidence of disturbance. A steady rain on the return walk made it difficult to stop and take long observations.
