DISPATCH FOR MILE 183 on 6/6/12   -   CHESHIRE
LOCATIONLane  •  North end of Roosevelt Beach, Rock Creek, Rocky Knoll
CONDITIONSWednesday 12:00 PM
SUMMARYBeach was beautiful and seems pristine at first sight, but I found quite a bit of debris mixed in the with small rocks piled below the cliff faces. Walked out with armloads of foam, a small bucket and two bags of garbage, including Japanese water bottles and a Japanese grape juice container. Found one orange float (local?) as well as several small floats in shapes/sizes that I have never seen before. Saw many crab boats and one small sailboat offshore. Five people and one dog on the beach over the course of an hour. It would be great if there were a garbage can at this location--Ocean Beaches Picnic Area. People seem to be leaving garbage next to the bathroom, but there is no receptacle. I hauled my debris to the garbage bin in the county park near Driftwood Shores. As tsunami debris increases, the need for garbage cans and recycling in parks and waysides will become more of an issue.
