MILE 300 on 11/1/08   -   BEACHMIKE LOCATION Tillamook  •  Manzanita Beach, Manzanita, Neahkahnie Beach CONDITIONS Saturday 4:00 PM  •  Partly cloudy  •  60° F  •  Wind: Strong from the S  •  Tide: 3 ft HUMANS People: 70  •  Dogs: 6 ACTIVITIES Walking/running: 60  •  Playing in surf: 3  •  Playing in sand: 2  •  Sitting: 2  •  Photography: 2  •  Rockhunting: 0  •  Tidepooling: 0  •  Surfing: 0  •  Windsurfing: 0  •  Kayaking: 0  •  Fishing: 0  •  Kitesurfing (1) CONCERNS DISTURBANCES Shorebirds moving in response to humans/dogs VEHICLES ACTIV.COMMENTS NOTABLE WILDLIFE Only birds on the beach were seagulls (several groups of 20-30 flying southward or huddled on the beach every tenth mile or so. One large group of pelicans spotted fishing in the surf about 100 yards offshore. DEAD BIRDS Total: 0 STRANDED Total: 0 FISH & INVERTS DRIFTLINE Shells  •  Kelp/Algae  •  Small rocks NEW DEVELOPMENT 1 new house-construction project taking place on the oceanfront four lots south of Laneda (basic framing in place) MODIFICATIONS NATURAL CHANGES COMMENTS SUMMARY The beach was really clean. I couldn't find anything to pick up. Dogs were all off-leash except for one, but none were observed chasing wildlife. There are a few companies that lead horseback trips along the shoreline, but the owners appear to make no attempt to pick up after the horses. I often find horse-droppings in the surf next to the hoof-prints.
