Curry County Workshops on Destination Resorts Mapping
Oregon Shores and 1000 Friends of Oregon are teaming up to present two workshops in Curry County on the destination resorts mapping process.
Curry County is beginning its resorts mapping process as required by state law because there is a proposal waiting in the wings for a destination resort in the Pistol River watershed, adjacent to the Crook Point unit of the Oregon Islands NWR. The mapping process (and the ordinance that implements the destination resorts process) is extremely important: the sites approved on the map are where resorts will be allowed, and the places developers will be scrutinizing for resorts for years to come.
No one in Curry County has experience with this process, because the County has never undertaken it. This is the time for local residents to get involved — as the maps are drawn and future sites decided.
The two main speakers will be:
David Pratt, Director of Curry County Department of Public Services. He will describe the Curry County resorts mapping process, and the new proposed ordinance.
Carol Macbeth, Eastern Oregon Advocate for 1000 Friends of Oregon. The majority of the destination resorts controversy has been in Deschutes County and the surrounding area. Carol knows the destination resorts process very well. She helps local residents in central Oregon make their concerns about destination resorts known, and provides information about the process.
The resorts planning workshop will be held both in Gold Beach and in Brookings on Saturday, October 10. The workshops are free.
In Gold Beach, from 10 AM to noon: the Curry County Annex, 94235 Moore Street. (Use the Colvin Street entrance on NE corner of building).
In Brookings, from 3 to 5 PM: Chetco Activity Center, Room A, 550 Chetco Lane.
