Beautiful September Day! Lots of sand covering up all the agates. Only 3 pieces of trash, not bad.   MORE

the ocean has breeched into Garrison Lake at high tide. High surf and high tides allow the waters to merge. The beach looks very different, getting flatter everyday.   MORE

All was peaceful and calm. Pelicans flying in lines and CA sealions swimming and barking. Only one person, surf fishing. I picked up one small plastic bag of litter, a few plastic bottles and a broken styrofoam buoy. There was the usual scattered driftwood, some in lovely shapes, all sizes. The beach was very clean. ATV's continue to travel the beach, but not today, at this time.   MORE

There were few people on the beach this day, only two and only one van in the parking area. The beach looked clean and typical of Paradise Point beach...pebbles, agates, bullwhip kelp and driftwood, some arranged in lovely sculptures, AND the ever present ATV tracks. I noticed gorse for the first time on the cliffs/bluffs of Paradise Point. It is gaining a foothold. I noticed small boulders of a reddish/iron- containing-looking nature at the foot of the trail down from Paradise Point. The bluff may be eroding and the parking area may be affected in time...who knows how much. This time of day it was mid-tide.   MORE

clumps of red rock fallen from above
Description:Several clumps of red rocks were observed at the base of the cliff/bluff at Paradise Point. This appears to be erosion of the cliff near the parking lot. The red rock structure of the cliff can be seen in the gorse photo.

The beach was clean and lovely. Very quiet day. There were two dead murres and one dead Harbor Seal. This beach still attracts illegal ATV use. One dune buggy problem occurred this summer. State police were called for an ATV incident and the dune buggy incident. The ATV user was taken to court and fined. The dune buggy user was warned at his home by the State Police officer.   MORE

My friend and I picked up trash as part of the SOLV program. There wasn't as much trash as previous times. Perhaps the sand is covering it all up or maybe, just maybe, people are being more responsible. Let's hope. It was a lovely, still day. The ocean was actually glassy, beautiful reflections of pelicans flying over.   MORE

A very quiet morning on the beach. My dog and I were the only ones there. Everything was very clean. There was quite a bit of sand build up on the foredune. There was evidence of ATV activity but no vehicle actually observed.   MORE

Just wanted to let everyone know that Tseriadun State Park (Agate Beach) in Port Orford has re-opened after being closed almost 11 months. The Park reopened on Tuesday, November 20, 2007. It is wonderful to have access to the beach again and the public has definitely been coming out to check out all the work that has been completed. These past rains put the culvert to the test and it seems that the water is flowing through the culvert when the lake reaches 14.5 ft. As always, it will be exciting to see what happens with the first really big storm and high tide.   MORE

Lots of beach driftwood and rocks from high tide and rough surf. Not much trash around. The people I encountered on an ATV, not a street legal one, claimed to have handicapped permits. There are still ATV's that ride on top of the dunes. It is hardly ever possible to really see if they have a license plate or a handicapped permit unless I am down on the beach at the exact time. Most often, multiple people are riding. I think illegal ATV activity is the most common concern I have.   MORE

Lots of natural debris from the recent storm, kelp and driftwood. One dead sea lion. There was evidence of someone having had a fire and there was a structure of driftwood in a teepee form. I intend to knock this down when the weather is better.   MORE

We still have to put our kayaks in and go to Agate Beach via Garrison Lake. It was the Fall Beach Clean Up Day so we cleaned our mile. Only 1 bag of trash and two big clumps of rope. There was alot of sand on the beach, probably covering many plastic bottles. We talked to a state park ranger and he said Agate beach should open up within the month. Clean-up and inspection is what they are waiting for now. It has been many months of closure, it will be nice to have it open again. Sunday was a lovely day, a bit windy but very pleasant.   MORE

It was a very peaceful, foggy, calm morning. Lovely for a walk. The ocean breakers were very LOUD, cracking like whips, but the sea was calm. The beach was very sandy and clean, not too many areas for rock gathering but I did come back with a good handful of agates. Mile 52 had a good summer re: tourists and dogs. The ATV's continue to come and from observations (but no proof) they are not disabled individuals.   MORE

Lovely day. We picked up about 3/4 of a big trash bag of trash; 75% plastic bottles. Hopefully with the new water bottle bill that will make them worth a few cents, there won't be as many of them thrown away. There looked like some kind of algae bloom that was streaking the ocean. Beautiful day for a stroll and kayaking!   MORE

Beautiful day. High tide was at 5:22 am so tide was "in-between" somewhat when I walked at 8:15 am. Beach really clean. I was able to picked up all the debris I found except for some broken wood pallet pieces. Normal amount of driftwood of random sizes. Cormorants had yellow-orange throats so I am assuming they were double-crested cormorants. Many kelp air-bladders on the beach. Beach morning glories and other beach wild flowers were abundant.Lots of pelicans and some barking CA sea lions in the water.   MORE

This is not a full report, as I was just walking a part of the mile with my visiting sister. I am sending a report because of finding the dead sea lion. I contacted Dave Bilderback of the Marine Mammal stranding network about the animal. I also found one dead Rhinoceros auklet and an amazing cabezon fish, quite large, about two and one-half feet. I had never seen one of these fish before but am quite sure of the identification which I did on returning home. I have GOT to get accustomed to taking my camera along on ALL walks!   MORE

This is my first report on this area, but I have been walking this area for three years. Things look pretty usual for this time of year. There were bull whip kelp knots, much driftwood, some very big trees from the winter storms and some dead birds. It was a beautiful afternoon's walk.   MORE
