There is a new layer of sand on this beach disguising the ocean debris underneath. Very little debris seen today. There were about 20-25 people enjoying the low tide (-1). Much more of the beach was accessible today and people were exploring the exposed areas. Erosion of the bluff continues to be a feature of this beach. There are many exposed drain pipes and one storm sewer has fallen to the beach.    MORE

The beach is mainly sand now. Very little debris on the sand. In the tidal area there was a lot of kelp and many plastic items were mixed within the kelp. We did see one large plastic barrel, probably used for surplus fuel on a boat. The bluff continues to retreat. Stairs that used to provide access from Schooner's Landing and a nearby neighborhood are both gone. Many drain pipes and fabric used to stabilize the bluff showed for the first time. This was a low tide morning, but we saw only 7 people. Birds were around the shoreline and the tidal area, but not much variety.   MORE

Continuing retreat of the bluff
Description:This is an area where a stairway provided access to the beach from a neighborhood. We had never seen this fabric before.

Very little sand on the beach right now. Winter erosion of the sandy bluff has been significant. Two staircases that lead to Skinner's landing and a neighborhood access are gone. There was a significant increase in the plastic debris, especially tiny pieces of plastic in the shoreline. Two neighbors were picking up the larger pieces of debris, but the size and amount of the smaller pieces prevented being able to remove this litter.   MORE

People were walking and looking at Tide Pools. There were only 15 people or so. There were small children playing in the sand and trying to fly a kite. One dog was chasing a frisbee. Other dog playing with child. Very little wildlife noted other than the usual pair of Black Oyster Catchers and seagulls. Tide pools contained the usual sea anenomes and barnacles. Not a lot of variety in the tide pools. No dead birds or mammals noted. The drift line was clean of debris. Man made changes were removal of the wooden stairs from Schooner's Landing with a fence put up at the top of the bluff. There was visible erosion from winter storms. Houses on bluff along NW 57th St are very close to the edge.   MORE

Bluff erosion is particularly noticeable this date. This mile does not have heavy human activity so human impact is not great. There are two stairs down to the beach from Schooner Landing Condos and a nearby neighborhood. Both have been damaged signficantly by the winter storms.   MORE

This rocky beach was covered with sand. An unusual amount of driftline debris probably due to recent August storm. A 10ft plus log that was covered with goose neck barnacles was above the water line. The barnacles were opening as if searching for food. Five oyster catchers were noted all clustered together. Erosion continues to be evident on the bluffs. Little evidence of beach litter, but some fishing nets and floats were found as well as other plastic debris washed ashore.   MORE

This beach showed little sign of human use. The only litter was in the driftline. Some new areas of sliding on the bank were noted. A bluff visible from the beach shows lots of erosion that is coming close to homes.   MORE

New slide
Description:The breakthrough of this flume like slide was a new observation today. Slides of a similar size were noted at other locations nearby

The beach showed signs of increased use this summer. There was more litter (still not much), tire tracks on the beach, spray paint on a log and a large wind shelter built with driftwood and nylon rope similar to that found other places on the beach. There were more dead birds than we have seen before.   MORE

A beautiful day. We saw more people today than we've ever seen before at one time on this beach. We went one day after the beach cleanup project, so it was very clean.   MORE

Much less sand than last summer. Many small rocks cover the beach. Earthen steps at access area have been washed away, so access is difficult. Landslides and erosion of bluffs is a continuing feature of this beach.   MORE

Winter storms have taken their toll on this beach. The sand is gone in much of the areas close to the bluffs, exposing many rocks that make walking on the beach difficult. We noted that the tree trunk seen in October is exposed a lot more now, and that bluff has changed shape quite a bit. There are recent slides of trees coming down off of the cliffs and large rocks on the beach. One area where we have noted trees leaning, etc, now shows even more erosion and the leaning trees are laying down. The stairs rebuilt last Spring by Schooner Creek Condos are damaged but usable.   MORE
